The Houston Independent School District is committed to providing a high-quality education for every child, regardless of where they live or what school they choose to attend. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves in rigorous academic courses designed to prepare them for college and meaningful careers. In addition, the districts graduation rate is at an all-time high, and the dropout rate is at an all-time low. Its purpose is not to list all of the district’s current activities or past accomplishments. VA North Texas Health Care System


VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) is a progressive health care provider in the heart of Texas. Poised as VA's second largest health care system, we serve over 113,000 Veterans and deliver 1.4 million outpatient episodes of care each year to Veterans in 38 Texas counties and two counties in southern Oklahoma. We have 4,700 employees and 1,700 community volunteers who are driven by the passion to serve at Dallas VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center, Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic, Tyler VA Primary Care Clinic, Polk Street VA Annex Clinic and five community based outpatient clinics. VANTHCS provides comprehensive health services through primary, tertiary and long-term care in many areas like medicine, surgery, mental health and rehabilitation. The 853-bed system has a Spinal Cord Injury Center, Domiciliary Care Program and Community Living Center with a dedicated hospice unit. In 2009, a Fisher House was established on the Dallas campus to provide no-cost temporary lodging in a home-like setting for families of Veterans or active duty military personnel undergoing treatment at the facility.  [Read more]

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART)


Curb-to-curb public transportation service for people with disabilities who are unable to use DART buses or trains. DART Paratransit Service is a curb-to-curb public transportation service for people with disabilities who are unable to use DART buses or trains. Paratransit is a shared-ride service operated with modern, accessible vehicles, and taxi cabs. Riders who are unable to access vans by using steps can use the wheelchair lifts or ramps. On the large accessible vans, boarding chairs are available upon request. DART also offers free travel training, along with travel ambassadors, to persons with disabilities who are capable of riding accessible bus and rail services.  [Read more]
